Arranging a Wedding at St Mary’s
Many people choose to be married at St Mary’s, and we are delighted to help them at such a joyful time in their lives.
A marriage service is a public declaration of love and commitment to your partner.
If you choose to get married in church, there is an added dimension – the assurance that God cares about your relationship and that his resources and strength are available to help you.
Including God in your marriage doesn’t mean that you will avoid all the usual ups and downs, but you will know that you can look to God for help and guidance and that his love will sustain you. You will also have the support and encouragement of the Christian Church family.
To arrange a Wedding at St Mary’s you need to contact the Vicar and arrange to see him, so that he can take your details, and discuss with you what kind of wedding you want. (Phone 01455 234241)
Normally those getting married go to their own Parish Church – everyone in England lives in a Parish. Hinckley is divided into two parishes – St Mary’s, and West Hinckley. The law has changed, making it easier for couples to marry in a church of their choice. Couples can marry in a church where they can show they have some connection through their family. Even if this is not so it may still be possible to marry at St Mary’s. Couples need to see the vicar, tell him why they want to get married at St Mary’s, and he will explain the matter further.
There is a lot of helpful information at this web site.
For couples where one or both are divorced: The clergy at St Mary’s are prepared to marry those who are divorced; but before agreeing to do so, the vicar will want to see the couple and talk the matter over with them.
COMING TO CHURCH
We ask all those getting married at St Mary’s to try to come to church at least once a month in the period leading up to your wedding. Among all the preparations to be made for your wedding don’t forget to prepare for the most important part of all, the service in church. The best way to do this is by coming to church. This way you will get accustomed to the church, and you will feel far less nervous on your wedding day!
The right music, to suit you and your big day, is important. We will discuss with you what you would like and can make suggestions if you would like something a bit different as well. We can play music on the organ and can arrange for the choir to be available as well. Please discuss this when you meet the vicar.
