August for many people is a dead month in their gardens
Following on the heat that we have had this year you may have started deadheading your roses and cutting back your perennials. Now it is a time to decide what to put in to take over to last though to the joy of the Autumn colours.

Veronica u. Georgia Blue commonly known as Speedwell which is a vigorous semi-evergreen perennial with small, lance-shaped leaves and loose racemes of deep blue flowers 12mm across.
Leucanthemum xs ‘Aglaia’ commonly known as Shasta daisy ‘Aglaia’ with dark glossy green leaves and semi-double white flowers 10-12cm in width, with a trace of yellow in the centre
Sedum ‘Ruby Glow’ commonly known as Stonecrop which is a succulent, greenish-purple
The flowers can flop so stake early.
Monarda ‘Aquarius’ commonly known as Bergamot, Bee balm. It is an upright, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with lance-shaped, pointed, toothed, aromatic, semi-glossy, dark green leaves and erect stems bearing dense, whorled clusters of two-lipped, tubular, purple-pink flowers in summer.

Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ commonly known as White painted plantain lily is a clump-forming perennial with broadly heart-shaped, puckered dark green-blue leaves broadly-margined with creamy-yellow. Funnel-shaped pale lavender flowers on stems to 60cm in summer
Penstemon ‘Apple Blossom’ commonly known as Beard Tongue which is is a clump-forming semi-evergreen perennial to 70cm in height, with narrow foliage and erect racemes or panicles of bell-shaped, white-throated, pale pink flowers 2.5cm in length

Crocosmia xc ‘Castle Ward Late’ commonly known as monbretia is a clump-forming perennial, to 90cm tall, with narrow, pleated leaves and arching stems bearing tubular, somewhat spidery, orange flowers flushed with yellow in summer.
Lupinus Gallery Yellow which is a dwarf, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with palmate, mid-green leaves and tall, upright, terminal racemes of pale yellow flowers from spring until summer.
We also look at a selection of grasses; Miscanthus
